Day 2 ISABELA
Breakfast and beginning of the Adventure in the Sierra Negra Volcano.
From port Villamil we will take a vehicle and ride for about 45 min. approximately until we get to El Cura, where we will saddle up to go around the oriental side of the crater of the Sierra Nevada Volcano up to El Jaboncillo, a place in which we will drop off the horses and continue on foot on the road to the Chico Volcano. Once we have reached the top, if there is a clear view, we can see Chico Volcano to the northwest of the crater. If your group wishes to walk from El Cura the expedition takes from 3 to 5 hours. Big trees stick out in the panoramic view of the zone. The Sierra Negra Volcano is considered the oldest of the Isabela Island. This zone is highly active, with three volcanic eruptions registered in the 90s. The crater of Sierra Negra has a 10km diameter and it’s the second largest in the world; its last eruption occurred in 2005. Chico Volcano is a fissure, composed of scum and lava. This fissure had its last eruption on November of 1979. The volcanic activity lasted for a week.
On the way of Sierra Negra you can observe the invasion of plants such as the Common Guava, you will also observe birds such as the Galapagos flycatcher, owl, Darwin’s finch, smooth bill any, Vermilion Flycatcher, lava lizar, garza bueyera, Maria. After returning from Chico Volcano we will rest at El Jaboncillo and eat a box lunch.
Afternoon snorkeling in CONCHA PERLA. A little shallow bay located near the disembarkation dock of Villamil Port. A cozy place where locals and visitors can enjoy snorkeling or simply swim in the tranquil, crystalline waters. Its land access is through a wooden bridge from which one can observe sea lions, penguins, a variety of fish and birds coexisting in a unique environment.
Recommendations: Bring snorkeling equipment.
Dinner at local restaurant.
Day 3 ISABELA
Breakfast.
Heading over to the islet “Las Tintoreras”
A panga is needed to get to the site. There is easy access and people can disembark with either high or low tide. The approximate time of travel from Villamil Port to Las Tintoreras is 10 minutes.
The islet Las Tintoreras is located south of Villamil Port. It has a small bay of completely tranquil, turquoise waters, where one can appreciate sea lions, sea turtles, penguins, marine iguanas, rays, etc. This bay is connected to a crevice of crystalline waters, of little depth, and when the tide is low the entrance closes. In this crevice one can see white tip reef sharks swimming along with sea lions and small fish.
Along the path we can observe many marine iguanas in between the rocks or under the mangroves. Las Tintoreras is one of the few places in which marine iguana’s reproduction is successful because of the absence of other introduced animals.
The second beach is completely surrounded by mangroves, existing both mangroves white and Heli, plus it’s the only place in the world where you can find mangroves, lava and penguins at the same time.
Lunch at local restaurant.
Head over to the Giant Turtle Center “Arnaldo Tupiza”
The Giant Turtle Breeding Center in Isabela is located 1.5km of Villamil Port.
In this breeding center there are Galápagos turtles from populations of the south of Isabela Island (Sierra Negra Volcano and CerroAzul) reproducing.
On the trail that goes to the Giant Turtle Center “Arnaldo Tupiza” there are two lagoons where one can observe flamingos feeding and ducks.
At the Breeding Center you can see two out of the five sub-species of giant turtles, cared for by the park keepers. The center was created to protect the animals in their first years of life since their natural environment has been invaded by foreign species like pigs and donkeys, which constitute a threat because pigs eat the eggs and donkeys compete for food. The park keepers collect the eggs and bring them to the center where they place them in incubators. After five years, when the turtles have reached a decent size to make it on their own, they are released in their natural environment.
Approximate time of driving: 1.5 hours.
The Breeding Center has beautiful gardens with plants like chamomile, algarrobo, cactus, Palo santo, cat claw, chala, horse knee, muyuyo, espuela de gallo, lechoso, arrayán, margarita de Galápagos. Dinner at local restaurant.

Near Asilo de la Paz, the Galapagos National Park built a coral where one can observe Galapagos turtles (from several islands) in captivity.
